Award Snub: The movie was not submitted by Switzerland for this category, more or less due to its being a Swiss-French-Pole co-production. It was nominated for Director, Original Screenplay, and Cinematography, but lost all three (to Forrest Gump, Pulp Fiction, and Legends of the Fall respectively).
Like You Would Really Do It: Some reviewers found the ending — the boat Valentine and others were on sinking in a storm, and almost everyone on it died except the trilogy's main characters — less suspenseful or moving because of this trope.
