• Awesome Music: The Determinator plot is complimented well by the slow Triumphant Reprise of James' theme playing throughout.
• Heartwarming Moments:
  • A Hypocritical Heartwarming one with the Fat Controller scolding James he was angry people were laughing at his railway, though James was the cause of it, the red engine is a part of that railway. He doesn't like anyone else ridiculing his engines.
  • James apologising to the Fat Controller for his behavior, which the Fat Controller willingly forgives him and lets him out to collect some troublesome trucks. If that wasn't enough, the Fat Controller reappears when the job is done. James is worried he is in trouble again, but the Fat Controller was smiling, and applauds James for handling the troublesome trucks and allows him to keep his red paint.
• Jerkass Woobie: James in the beginning of the episode.
• Moment of Awesome: James being determined not to let the troublesome trucks get the better of him every chance they get.
• Tear Jerker: James cries remorsefully for all of the trouble he's caused in "James and the Coaches".
