- Squick: As is typical in a Park Chan-wook movie:
- The effects of the EV virus are really unpleasant. Sang-hyun's fingernails fall out at some point.
- The close-ups of the different open wounds, often with blood seeping out.
- Values Dissonance: Sang-hyun's breaking his celibacy vows. In Korea, celibacy is highly unpopularnote , so him having carnal temptations was seen as acceptable - he shouldn't be doing that, but a man is a man. When the film was released abroad, the exact same scenes were interpreted as him Jumping Off the Slippery Slope, rather than being a mere start of Slowly Slipping Into Evil.
