  • Audience-Alienating Premise: The film probably didn't have a chance at the box-office not because of its material but because it was based on a novel by Anne Rice, that she wrote during her brief born-again Christian period. Years after writing it, she renounced Christianity, openly criticized conservative Christians, and became very supportive of her openly gay son Christopher. All of these may have played a part in the film's target demographic preferring to see God's Not Dead 2 over this film, despite The National Catholic Register and right-wing news sources such as TheBlaze encouraging people to see it.
