• Moral Event Horizon: Laya crossed it when she kidnapped Tan to get at his father, than turned said father into an animal and ate him.
• No Yay: Most readers agree that Kass would be a horrible choice for romantic partner for Aro. For one there's the fact that he's the cause of the majority of the problems she and Tan face on their journey, then there's his manipulative actions (using his devils to make Aro and Tan hallucinate and misunderstand each other in order to drive a wedge between them) and him not telling Aro anything about is involvement in her current situation when they actually meet face to face, instead pretending he's still the same nice guy she knows from their shared childhood.
• Unintentionally Unsympathetic: The mountain spirit can come across as unecessarily antagonistic. It's one thing for her to get upset at the villagers for using her resources and not giving anything back, it's another thing for her to force the villagers into a cult that worships her and regularly has to sacrifice other gods to her under threat of her plugging up her rivers and letting them die. There's also the way she tortures Deo's men when he comes to investigate, is needlessly rude to Deo and then has the gall to make demands of him when he meets her face to face. Even post Heel–Face Turn her bad attitude doesn't change much, as she basically forces Deo to make a pact with her and carry a piece of her around, both of which she uses to hurt him if he ever upsets her, unknowingly or otherwise.
