YMMV / The Winchesters

  • Friendly Fandoms: With Gotham Knights (2023), which stars Jensen Ackles's Supernatural castmate Misha Collins as Harvey Dent. Jensen Ackles was originally supposed to appear in Gotham Knights as Bruce Wayne, they premiered on The CW in close succession, and they're having a simultaneous #SaveTheWinchesters #RenewGothamKnights campaign.
  • Ho Yay: Carlos speaks flirtatiously to John like he does to practically everyone, at one point referring to him as "amor", and John seems appreciative of Carlos in uniform in "Masters of War".
  • Salvaged Story: More than once, the characters discuss how important it is that they take pains not to kill or permanently maim demon hosts, since those are still innocent people in there, with Mary even calling it "demon possession rules". A common complaint among Supernatural viewers was how after the first few seasons, Dean and Sam would routinely slaughter possessed humans without even trying to trap and exorcise them.
  • Tear Jerker: Several, but notably the tragic backstory of Mac, who had an abusive father and was ultimately murdered by the rest of his own hunting band because they feared he was turning to the dark side and didn't know how to help him.
  • Tainted by the Preview: The Supernatural fandom had mixed responses to the announcement of the show because of how divisive John and Mary are (especially John) due to their shall-we-say mixed record when it comes to parenting Dean and Sam well. The premise also seemingly retconned their backstory as it had been established that John wasn't familiar with the supernatural until after Mary's death. The Reveal that the show actually takes place in a separate timeline whose Mary and John aren't doomed to follow the same path as their Supernatural counterparts mitigates these issues.
  • Unexpected Character:
    • Dean suddenly showing up at the end of the pilot, narrating the events of the show. He then later turns out to actually be living in his parents' time period.
    • The season finale adds to this, with Bobby and Jack showing up as well to help Dean back to his own universe.
