YMMV / The Wild Thornberrys Movie

  • Alternative Character Interpretation:
    • When Eliza gets her powers back, did she really make it so Debbie would turn into a baboon if she revealed her secret, or was she just saying that to scare her? Furthermore, was that Shaman Mnyambo's idea? Did he pick the terms and Eliza just had to agree to them in order to get her powers back or did he decide without actually giving her a choice at all?
    • Do Bree and Sloan actually believe when Eliza reveals she can talk to animals since the storm—which takes her powers away—instantly starts around her (and the latter immediately calls out Eliza for doing so too)? If so, that means they still intend to set the elephants up to get killed with the electric fence knowing full well that they're sentient creatures they're essentially about to mass murder. May even lend itself to the theory that the Blackburns already thought of the animals as sentient and this all but reinforced that rather than change anything that they believed before it.
  • Award Snub: Despite both the critical praise and financial success—as well as Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius being one of the first movies recognized as a nominee for Best Animated Feature the year before—the movie's only nomination was for Best Original Song "Father and Daughter" by Paul Simon. One theory as to why this happened was that Hey Arnold! The Movie saw release a few months before it and bombed.
  • Moral Event Horizon: Sloan and Bree's plan to kill a thousand elephants...simply so that they can get the ivory. Later, they threaten to murder Debbie to get information out of Eliza (Bree implies that she actually wants to kill Debbie instead of simply getting information.) And if that isn't enough, Sloan later tosses poor Eliza into a raging river for interfering with his plan.
  • Squick: This exchange between Darwin and a horse. It doesn't help that the horse is smiling when delivering his line.
    Darwin: Where's the bathroom?
    Horse: You're standing on it!
