YMMV / The Wild Swans

Go To

  • Abduction Is Love: The King basically kidnaps Elisa and marries her without her ever speaking a word to him. She ends up falling in love with him.
  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: At the end of his song, the king begins to play a violin that was conjured by the Cupid sculptures in his throne room.
  • Fridge Brilliance: At first it might seem like a plothole that Peter, on more than one occasion, is able to delay transforming for a longer period of time than his brothers. However, the evil Queen cursed him a few minutes after his other brothers, so it's likely that the magic is delayed because of this.
  • Insane Troll Logic: The Archbishop was preparing to have Elisa burned at the stake as a witch, and she turns her brothers back into humans from swans in front of a crowd, literally seconds before her scheduled execution. This somehow convinces everyone that she is not a witch.
  • Nostalgia Filter: Due to the Dueling Dubs, most people tend to strongly prefer whichever version they grew up watching and find the others to be inferior.
  • Values Dissonance:
    • Elisa's wicked stepmother makes her unrecognizable to her father and brothers and "ugly and dirty" by turning her skin and hair black.
    • In the original Russian version, the King states that Elisa has already given him her answer as, because of her silence, she can't say no.
