YMMV / The Tourettes Guy

Go To

  • Broken Base: Did the series remain funny after its revival? Those who prefer the older videos appreciate how genuine they feel, with the newer videos being much more obviously staged after said staging became public knowledge. The newer videos do have their fans, however, due to the team allowing themselves more creative freedom with their gags now that the cat's out of the bag.
  • Crosses the Line Twice: Danny and his son watching a Ray Combs episode of Family Feud. Danny is told that Combs killed himself.
Danny: I'd kill myself, too, if my last name was... COMBS!
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: The bird, which quickly became beloved due to managing to fight Danny and practically win despite, y'know, being a bird. It's often given the Memetic Badass treatment amongst fans.
  • Fountain of Memes: Danny, among others.
  • He's Just Hiding: Despite reportedly dying from complications following a car accident in 2007, Danny has appeared in a new video every year or two. The (now-defunct) website claimed that he was actually in prison.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: In 2013, a group of Buddhist monks in Sri Lanka looted the Fashion Bug (unrelated to the one in the US). Though, they did not bring a broom.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • Danny has shown distaste for Fashion Bug. Then in 2013, every Fashion Bug closed down for good. The good news is that there is one with the same name (but it is unleated to the Fashion Bug Danny mentioned) in Canada. If you are a Sri Lankan, this may count as a Harsher in Hindsight (see entry above).
    • Wheel of Fortune actually did have a contestant with Tourette's several years later.
  • Jerkass Woobie: Danny is a loud and abrasive jerk, but with all the abuse he gets, the divorce he suffered through (apparently caused by his wife banging other men behind his back), a second divorce prior to that with another woman, and his abusive father, it's not hard to understand why he's such a prick.
  • Less Disturbing in Context: Danny shouts "Fuck me!" in frustration when his pen runs out of ink, but he's on the phone at the time, and makes no attempt to clarify things for the guy on the other end. Since he can't see the pen, it must have sounded like a request rather than an expletive.
    Other Guy: Excuse me?
    Danny: I said "fuck me"!
  • Literary Agent Hypothesis: The series is purported to be a documentary.
  • Memetic Badass:
    • Danny's son treats Rick Moranis as one, saying he and his friends might come looking for revenge after Danny insulted him.
    • Also the bird, who managed to KO Danny with one hit to the face.
  • Nausea Fuel: The sheer amount of trash in "Buried Alive" is just dizzying to look at.
  • Nightmare Fuel:
    • The scene where Danny's father starts chasing after the cameraman. It's played out like something from Outlast and legitimately terrifying. Not helping is that despite his size, the old man can book it. It takes the cameraman driving away in a car to escape him.
    • The 2020 video has Danny win a $250,000 lottery scratch-off only for three years later for his house to be completely covered with trash all over the floor. Most of it is beer cans and it's revealed that not only do they have trouble opening the doors to get to the other rooms, but there's so much glass on the floor they have to use used pizza boxes to avoid stepping on it to get around. And at the end, there's an unknown animal moving underneath the waste and refuse, but we never get to see what the animal is.
  • One-Scene Wonder: The bird, the angry janitor, and the guy who gave Danny an epic Death Glare after being woken up from his nap.
  • Older Than They Think: Tourettes Guy videos have around since 2000, the series celebrated its 20th anniversary with a new video in December 2020.
  • Sequel Gap: Started after 2009, when Danny ran into problems with the law. Ever since, there have been very sparse posts of new videos of the Tourette's Guy, as Danny's fame (or infamy) has made his private life rather difficult, leading to him not wanting to be on camera as often.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot:
    • Danny was set to be on Wheel of Fortune before he was bumped. Could you imagine?
    • WOF's family-friendly television standards do not permit swearing. The handlers of the contestants probably did a background check on him and that's all she wrote. Even if it did happen, that episode would probably never be allowed to air... and likely show up online instead.
