- Audience-Alienating Era: For many years, fans considered The Tom & Jerry/Grape Ape Show being the low point of Tom and Jerry.
- Broken Base: Most fans dislike the show for making Tom and Jerry friends, ruining the iconic dynamic of cat-mouse chase. But there are also many fans who find this show relaxing as Tom and Jerry are friends. In the end, it's pretty much a matter of personal preferences.
- Cliché Storm: Choose any standard Hanna-Barbera theme in one of their Funny Animal cartoons. Chances are, it's there in the 1975 series.
- Fanon Discontinuity: Many fans of the franchise hate this show so much that they actively choose to ignore it for obvious reasons.
- Hilarious in Hindsight: Tom and Jerry, as friends? Like anyone would attempt that again!
- Parody Displacement: The Simpsons did a vicious parody of this cartoon and the Moral Guardians who inspired it in the classic episode "Itchy and Scratchy and Marge", which is better known than this version itself.
- So Okay, It's Average: Those who don't outright hate or absolutely love the concept of Tom and Jerry being friends often see the show as this with those same people considering it an odd, but decent concept with a weak execution. And looking past the Limited Animation and the fact that most of the themes are recycled from other Hanna-Barbera cartoons, it still has its moments. Had Tom and Jerry not been the main characters, this show would've probably fell into obscurity with several other lesser-known Hanna-Barbera Funny Animal cartoons.
- They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: Due to the presence of Moral Guardians during the 70s' heavily censoring most kid-oriented cartoons, the two titular enemies were turned into friends (or at least Friendly Rivals). To put it bluntly, fans disowned this change faster than Jerry can escape back to his mouse hole from Tom.
