- Values Dissonance: At the time, Athenian law obliged a widow to marry her dead husband's brother or cousin in order to keep his property in the family. As such, the audience of Aeschylus' day would not have been as sympathetic towards the Suppliants as we are.
- Values Resonance: The debate of this play whether a nation and a people should open its borders to refugees fleeing oppression, or if state law bars universal law is absolutely current on account of the Syrian Refugee Crisis.
