Alternative Character Interpretation: The real Irene seems like a Friendly Ghost, throwing into question how much of the story we heard about her is real. Is she simply a nice, ordinary woman who died young in a freak accident, and never meant to frighten anyone, with all the stories about the ghost being incidents that were exaggerated or taken out of context, or possibly totally unrelated things that were blamed on her? Did she actually die the way the story says she did? Is she genuinely vengeful and cruel to people she associates with her husband's betrayal, but nice enough to people who haven't upset her? Is she at all upset about the way the gang used her story for a prank on Zack? Her peaceful interaction with the twins at the end seems to suggest she's taking it in stride, or finds it Actually Pretty Funny herself, but it's possible she walked through the portrait at the end to purposefully freak them out a little, possibly to get a little playful revenge.
