YMMV / The Stars Above

Go To

  • Funny Moments:
    • The Starfarers have random dialogue for when you try to speak to them when the plot isn't moving or if you don't have any first boss kills in the backlog. Highlights include Asphodene wondering if you could take her in a fight ("That was a joke. You probably could.") and Eridani being insecure about her outfit.
    • Summoning Eridanus will cause Eridani to break her usual stoicism and become genuinely offended at his use of the Force of the Cosmos.
  • Game-Breaker:
    • The Edin Genesis Quasor replaces a weapon's damage stats with the ridiculously-high numbers written on its description in the Stellar Nova. This doesn't have a cap and messes with other damage boosts and other caps they might have (see: Terraria Calamity), causing its damage potential to grow exponentially and trivialize post-Moon Lord content.
    • There's also an accessory that doubles the player's damage at the cost of slashing 300 maximum HP. While already a no-brainer for anyone skilled in no-hit fights, that cost is itself a non-issue in Calamity and Fargo's due to the existence of items that raise the player's HP above the default maximum of 500. Clearing the mod itself (which can be done well before clearing the post-Moon Lord content of any other mod) also unlocks an ability in the Stellar Array that doubles damage again under certain conditions, and doesn't sacrifice HP to do so.
    • The Stellar Array has a function that allows Aspect weapons to change their damage types for a small penalty. This is a niche function largely limited by the small pool for the mod's arsenal... until the Warrior of Light is defeated, which unlocks an ability that extends this function to every vanilla or modded weapon. You'll find soon enough that there is a very good reason damage types are segregated in Terraria.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Penthesilea's theme is "Mage of Violet," yet is not an Expy of Murasaki Shion. This mod is designed to work with Fargo's Mod, which would later update to introduce the opposite situation: the Deviantt is now retroactively an expy of Shion due to her name pool updating to include a reference, but doesn't get her music.
  • It's Easy, So It Sucks!: Even though the mod is billed as an add-on to Terraria Calamity, The Thorium Mod, and Fargo's Mod, its balance sense relative to those mods is... skewed in the player's favor, despite the Difficulty Spike the mod's own bosses have compared to what is in vanilla Terraria, which has affected The Stars Above's game balance reception.
  • Les Yay: It's implied Asphodene is attracted to the player's use of the Suistrume, even if their character is female.
  • Low-Tier Letdown: Eridani's weapons are sometimes seen in a negative light compared to Asphodene's, as they lack the extra DPS to compensate for their increased difficulty of use.
