YMMV / The Simpsons Wrestling

Go To

  • Critic-Proof: Sold fairly well - moving at least 300k units in the UK alone - despite its absolute critical thrashing.
  • Funny Moments: All of the pre-battle taunts, especially between characters who rarely interact in the show.
  • High-Tier Scrappy: Although the game isn't particularly well-balanced to begin with, Ned Flanders is infamous for being brutally overpowered. Most of his melee attacks both come out quickly and hit surprisingly hard, his bible projectiles home in on enemies and stay on the screen until they hit you (even if you're knocked down, they'll circle above you until you get up - did we forget to mention there's no blocking?), and his heavy attack involves him summoning God to repeatedly attack the opponent with lightning strikes; while said attack has a long startup, each strike does ludicrous damage to the point where it's possible to deplete an opponent's entire health bar before the move ends. It can hit you while you're down, interrupting attempts to escape a pin, and can hit you while you're trying to pin him, automatically breaking it up. What truly tips him over the edge, however, is his Auto-Revive ability; after being pinned once, Flanders will revive with full health, meaning you have to pin him twice to actually win against him. Flanders is so utterly broken that he's actually considered stronger than Burns & Smithers or Kang & Kodos, both of whom were designed to be Purposely Overpowered SNK Bossses.
  • The Problem with Licensed Games: The game has unbalanced gameplay, Artificial Stupidity and shoddy cel-shaded graphics, even for a late-gen PS1 game. You're unable to block your opponents' attacks, and the controls were also poor. Ned Flanders is an SNK Boss due to his attacks being overpowered and you have to pin him four times to win. The only good thing going for it is the surprisingly good music and the voice acting. Unfortunately, the characters tend to repeat their lines a lot.
  • Spiritual Successor: This game is less a wrestling game and more a license-based version of Power Stone.
  • Play It For Comically-Overpowered Ned Flanders
