• Aluminum Christmas Trees: Üter kicking the ball with just one shoe. In the 1980's, the NFL had a trend of 'barefoot kickers' who would indeed take off their boot before attempting a field goal. This remains such a little-known historical footnote in the sport that this reference, as well as the joke of Üter kicking the ball with his booted foot anyway, is likely to fly over the heads of modern audiences.
• Genius Bonus: In addition to the title of the episode being a reference to former Green Bay Packers quarterback Bart Starr, the uniform Bart has is 15, the same as Bart Starr.
• Hilarious in Hindsight:
  • The name of the sporting goods store is Sportacus.
  • Homer saying, "My father never believed in me! I'm not gonna make the same mistake."
