YMMV / The Simpsons S 8 E 19 Grade School Confidential

Go To

  • Aluminum Christmas Trees: Music actually has been used as a tool of psychological warfare. Of course, George and Ira Gershwin's "Embraceable You" for two people who are specifically protesting their right to love each other is maybe not the best choice.
  • Harsher in Hindsight:
    • It seems kinda eerie now when one hears Edna responds to Martin's announcement, "Can it wait until I retire?", considering the fact her voice actress Marcia Wallace died of pneumonia in October 2013 at the age of 70. Same goes to the farewell speech she gives to her class after she and Seymour are fired by Chalmers.
    • It's also sad to rewatch this episode, not just because Marcia Wallace is dead and Edna has been retired of the series out of respect, but also because of "My Big Fat Geek Wedding" (in which Edna leaves Seymour at the altar) and the episodes where Edna falls for and marries Ned Flanders.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: In defense of himself, Skinner declares "I did not have relations in that closet!" The episode aired nearly ten months before Bill Clinton's infamous denial of his affair with Monica Lewinsky—the denial itself being nearly word-for-word.
  • Ho Yay: Nelson's the first person Martin gives an invitation to his birthday party despite Nelson's repeated attempts to brush it off.
  • Older Than They Think: This is not the first time Krabappel and Skinner have been in a small space together. In one of the Butterfinger commercials, the two are trapped in his locker after one of Bart's pranks. Amusingly, this causes a scandal here, too.
