YMMV / The Simpsons S4 E22 "Krusty Gets Kancelled"

Go To

  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
  • Memetic Mutation: Krusty's sincere "What the hell was that?" after watching Worker and Parasite has frequently been used as a reaction on the internet for videos, message board posts, and other things that prompt such a reaction.
  • One-Scene Wonder: Worker and Parasite, for its hilarious use of Mind Screw, and for leaving Krusty utterly dumbfounded (so much so that his reaction became a major Memetic Mutation).
  • Unintentional Period Piece:
    • The guest voices definitely date the episode to The '90s, as they were experiencing career peaks or at least were Household Names to viewers (as in Johnny Carson and Elizabeth Taylor's cases) at the time. (Not to mention Carson, Taylor, Hugh Hefner, Barry White, and Luke Perry have all passed).
    • The Red Hot Chili Peppers' appearance very specifically dates the show to a brief period in 1992-93 by featuring guitarist Arik Marshall, who replaced John Frusciante in 1992. Marshall was already out of the band by the time the episode aired in May 1993, having himself been replaced by Dave Navarro.
  • Woolseyism: The Latin American dub drastically changed a few cultural references, not limited to the infamous "Blind Idiot" Translation of Luke Perry into Robert Redford:
    • A similar, but milder case to the aforementioned has Steve Allen being dubbed as Woody Allen.
    • When Krusty mentions the ones he has beaten in the ratings, Joey Bishop and Arsenio Hall are replaced by Brozo (an irreverent Mexican version of Bozo the Clown), Cristina Saralegui (a Cuban American talk show host in the vein of Donahue and Oprah) and Don Francisco (the Chilean host of Sabado Gigante).
    • When Gabbo asks for the guests at his show, Crandall mentions Mexican singers Luis Miguel and Juan Gabriel instead of Ray J. Johnson.
    • The Italian dub also did some alterations:
      • Gabbo's impression of Vin Scully is replaced with one of the Italian-American basketball commenter Dan Peterson.
      • Krusty's mention of Joey Bishop was replaced with Bruce Willis.
