YMMV / The Simpsons S 29 E 4 Treehouse Of Horror XXVIII

Go To

  • Broken Base: Treehouse of Horror has been this since the Seasonal Rot started, but "MMM Homer" has to be one of the most contentious shorts of the series. Good because it's actually scary unlike how most of the ToH shorts have been since the rot started, or is it just plain gross and not scary?
  • Esoteric Happy Ending: Homer literally eats himself to death, but he enjoys it so thoroughly, and considers it the only thing he's ever succeeded in doing, plus the rest of Springfield enjoyed eating his remains (plus Barney, Comic Book Guy, and a horse).
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Maggie gets possessed by a demon in the first full segment of this episode. A couple of Treehouse episodes after this she would be depicted as actually being a demon.
  • Nausea Fuel: "Mmm... Homer" is quite possibly one of the most disgusting things to come out of the Simpsons, given that it involves Homer severing pieces of himself to cook and eat in elaborate and painful-looking ways. It's so bad that Lisa actually shows up at the start to warn the viewer about how gross the segment is and how they'll want to watch the notoriously gory and violent Game of Thrones to calm down afterward. She's not kidding.
  • Take That, Scrappy!: Though non-canon, Maggie killing Helen Lovejoy while possessed was sweet, sweet catharsis. With Marge being very thankful for the act.
