- Hilarious in Hindsight: Homer becoming an advocate of public safety, to the point where he agrees to become the Nuclear Power Plant's safety inspector in this episode, has only gotten funnier over time as it's become clear Homer's incompetence and indifference has only made the plant even more dangerous (even within this episode Homer admits he made countless safety blunders during his initial employment).
- Tear Jerker: The scene of Homer writing his suicide note is surprisingly somber and actually played straight. The way he quietly sobs and has to stop and compose himself before writing more is pretty gut-wrenching... and this was only the THIRD episode of the series!
- They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: Though his appearance is fleeting, Sherri and Terri's father is implied to be callous in action, coldly firing Homer right in front of his son, but also one of few plant members who won't put up with Homer's incompetence. With Homer Kicked Upstairs afterward, he could have made a potential Sitcom Arch-Nemesis, though he is relegated to background cameos after this episode, with this dynamic left unexplored until "Homer's Enemy" eight seasons after with another character.
