• Hilarious in Hindsight: Homer sees a want-ad for a truck driver in Iraq. This is the occupation of the protagonist in Buried which is set a year after this episode, even though the movie was not released until 2010.
• Unintentional Period Piece: The episode deals in part with Maggie (and then Homer) getting chicken pox, with the varicella vaccine having only become widespread in 2002. There is also a parody of The O.C. (which ended in 2007) halfway through the episode.
