YMMV / The Simpsons S 11 E 14 Alone Again Natura Diddily

Go To

  • Crosses the Line Twice: Moe letting Ned know, in detail, how hot he thought Maude was—then, when Ned starts beating him up, encouraging him to "Send me to Maude!"
  • Designated Hero: Homer's attempt to find Ned a new partner is framed as a rare moment of kindness on his part. This is despite the fact that not only is he directly responsible for Maude's death and displays no remorse over the fact, but his way helping Ned involves him blatantly violating Ned's privacy and autonomy by filming him without consent and using it to create a dating video while he's still in the process of grieving.
  • Harsher in Hindsight:
    • Sadly, this wouldn't be the last time Ned loses a wife; one of the many dates Ned goes on happens to be Edna Krabappel...
    • "Manger Things" would eventually reveal/retcon that Homer actually helped Maude give birth to Todd while Flanders was away. Having them connected in such an intimate matter makes Homer's nonchalance about causing Maude's death go from simply callous to down right psychopathic.
  • Heartwarming in Hindsight: Ned goes on a date with Edna Krabappel in one scene. Come "The Ned-liest Catch", and the two become an Official Couple, though this would unfortunately become Harsher in Hindsight, following Krabappel's death after Marcia Wallace, her voice actress, passed away in 2013.
  • Memetic Mutation:
    • Maude's actual death scene, due to its frankly absurd nature, is a popular source for memes in Simpsons Shitposting groups.
    • The shot of Ned in the shower with what looks to be an enormous penis blurred out has also made its way into Simpsons Shitposting groups, with Ned almost becoming a John Dillermand-like character in its exaggerations.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: IGN writer, Robert Canning felt that Maude dying, Ned dating and then Ned losing his faith could have been three different episodes.
  • Unintentional Period Piece: This episode dates itself with the use of a traditional video editor (which are almost never used anymore now that computers can easily do that sort of thing) and the use of a dating service where single people browse through dates through viewing of tapes rather than an online dating service.
