YMMV / The Seventh Bride

Go To

  • Moral Event Horizon: Maria thinks Ingeth crossed it when she brought Sylvie to the well at night on Lord Crevan's orders, probably knowing that Rhea received the task to murder her.
  • Nightmare Fuel: What Crevan did to the Golem Wife.
    • Sylvie and her family used to live next to a glacier. She mentions how they barred their doors at night because the glacier began to melt and things came out of it...
    • It's never specified whether the people who asked Crevan for help were aware of how exactly he acquired the gifts they were seeking. Imagine being happy that your daughter can see, and being grateful to the talented sorcerer who gave her back her sight... but without being aware that he stole the eyes from one of his wives, who is also his prisoner.
    • We never get to see exactly how Crevan takes his wives' gifts. Maria mentions that Ingeth's wounds healed well and that Maria herself nearly died, so the process is suggested to imply both a magical and a terribly brutal part.
  • Tear Jerker: What the wives went through under Crevan.
    • Maria, once a powerful witch, got robbed of her magic and forced to be a common cook for the man who robbed her.
    • Lady Elegans fell prey to someone who only wanted her for her inheritance and got her life stolen.
    • Sylvie's eyesight was stolen, an exceptionally cruel blow for someone who loved to admire her beauty.
    • Hester was stripped of every ounce of will, and turned into a golem who can only feel or do anything if Crevan allows it.
    • Ingeth lost her voice (the scars on her throat tell a terrifying tale) and locked herself in a self-hating and self-punishing loop.
    • The Clock Wife was locked away and had her death taken away from her, forcing her to spend immortality locked on a different plane.
