- Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Gail being cruel to Kay over her lighter skin tone. In flashbacks, Kay lived in the city "passing" as white, and when reunited with her cousins made a comment about Aboriginal people not being hardworking, referring to them as "you people" and Gail holds it against her for years. You might expect Gail to be more understanding, considering that Kay was separated from her family, forced into mission school and turned against her own aboriginal culture.
