YMMV / The Sacred Blacksmith

Go To

  • Base-Breaking Character: Between Luke and Cecily. Although an insensitive Jerkass with something of a heart of gold later on fans (particularly Western fans) support Luke over Cecily due to her violent Tsundere tendencies. This is not helped by the fact that the anime version (which many fans are more familiar with) portrays her as inept and weak compared to her original light novel and manga versions where she is far more competent and morally sound than Luke. However many fans of the anime nonetheless support Cecily for her more heroic traits alongside fans familiar with the manga and light novels.
  • Better on DVD: There will be nudity.
  • Memetic Mutation: Guaranteed replies.Explanation
  • Moral Event Horizon: Siegfried's utterly brutal beatdown on Cecily.
  • The Scrappy: To some, Princess Charlotte and her entourage (at least in the anime). As a result of being Easily Forgiven Karma Houdinis for trying to kill Cecily and trying to kidnap both Aria and Luke, then behaving like entitled bastards by demanding that Cecily puts them up while they stay in the city.
  • Signature Scene: Luke using his forged katana to cleanly cut someone's broadsword in front of Cecily is his Establishing Character Moment as the titular Sacred Blacksmith.
  • Tear Jerker: During Siegfried's assault, Cecily, in desperation and terror, flat-out screams for Luke. But there is no Big Damn Heroes moment. Luke does not come to save her. Cecily is brutally beaten, mocked about her helplessness, and left naked and traumatized on the dirty floor of a barn. After Siegfried leaves, she's so sickened and shaken that she vomits. It's a horrific scene and utterly heart-wrenching.
  • Willing Suspension of Disbelief: According to rumors, Luke's Big Damn Heroes moment where he saved Cecily by cutting through a thick claymore with his katana was too much for some people to comprehend and they cried foul over it.
