YMMV / The Robber Bride

  • Alternative Character Interpretation: Zenia is basically built on this. Which (if any) of her backstories were really true, and what did she want with the protagonists anyways? The world may never know.
  • Funny Moment: Roz's reaction to Larry coming out as gay
"But all those bimbos you put me through!"
—Roz
  • Never Trust a Trailer: Most inside cover descriptions and cover art make the novel seem like a lighthearted marriage story about three women doing battle with their seductress frenemy. What readers actually find is finely wrought saga dealing with class, gender, and trauma, albeit with a fair amount of levity.
  • Tearjerker: Charis's backstory of being abandoned by her mother and frequently raped by her uncle as a child certainly takes the cake, but Tony's upbringing by her alcoholic father certainly counts as well. All of Zenia's backstories are also meant to invoke this, but it's likely none of them are actually true.
