YMMV / The Remarried Empress

  • Alternative Character Interpretation:
    • While she's not particularly liked by anyone, there's a fair amount of discussion in the fandom about Rashta's character. There's a lot that suggests her original intentions were less cutthroat and she genuinely hoped to become friends with Navier. However, once she's made aware that she could be replaced by another concubine, while Viscount Roteschu enters the scene and starts blackmailing her, she feels backed into a corner and does anything to keep her position. The fact that she's easily manipulated by pretty much everyone makes things even more complicated. Sovieshu himself wonders after her death how much of her predicament was caused by her own flaws and how much was the result of peer pressure in her new environment. As she dies, Rashta hallucinates Navier embracing her like she did Lebetti, further suggesting she genuinely looked up to her and wanted her friendship.
    • Also, Heinrey: yes, he genuinely loves Navier and acts like a lovesick puppy around her. But he's also a surprisingly shrewd and ruthless ruler with ambitious goals, who initially came to Eastern Empire to gather information and cause sabotage, with war in his sights. His falling for Navier changes his plans... marginally.
    • Sovieshu's feelings and motivations are a subject of wide speculation. While it's gradually made obvious that he really loved Navier, his reasons for making Rashta his mistress are less clear, since he decided to divorce Navier only after Rashta was revealed to be pregnant. Navier herself tells Rashta that Sovieshu loves her exactly because she's nothing like his wife. It's possible Sovieshu initially brought Rashta in as some sort of Operation: Jealousy gambit, but it could also be that he really was feeling lonely in his marriage with a woman who put her duties as an empress first and foremost.
  • Awesome Art: The visuals are quite pretty, especially with regards to the characters' outfits.
  • Esoteric Happy Ending: Of Sovieshu's route in the game. While Kapmen's and Heinrey’s routes are portrayed as Happily Ever After, Sovieshu's ends on a rather melancholic note: while Rashta's crimes were revealed and Navier and Sovieshu are back together, there's a palpable understanding that they're never going to be the same. Sovieshu keeps apologizing to Navier, who never once smiles in the ending sequence, while both Kapmen and Heinrey seem regretful. The route strongly implies Navier sacrificed her personal happiness for the good of the Empire by staying at Sovieshu's side, even though it's supposed to be one of the happy endings.
  • Fan Nickname: A lot of the English-speaking fans prefer to call Rashta "Trashta" while Spanish-speaking readers call her “Rashta la Rata” note
  • Moment of Awesome: The baby being revealed not to be the Emperor's.
    • Kapmen punching Sovieshu.
    • Navier remarrying Heinrey just after getting her divorce from Sovieshu.
  • Nightmare Fuel: It takes an entire week after Rashta's suicide until her bloodied corpse is discovered in a pool of bloody vomit.
  • Stoic Woobie: Poor, poor Navier. She has to take every humiliation handed her by her husband and his mistress without batting an eyelid.
  • Unintentionally Sympathetic: For a lot of fans, Rashta falls squarely into this. Not only was she thrust into a situation she'd have no hope of navigating - to a man who'd she'd have no hope of denying no less - she easily gets the worst fate out of all the antagonists AND it's left deliberately ambiguous how manipulative her initial actions truly were and how much was it due to her being way out of her depth.
