YMMV / The Red Ranger Becomes an Adventurer in Another World

Go To

  • Angst? What Angst?:
    • Red isn't terribly broken up about being stuck in another world for months with no way back home. Though, it's somewhat justified by his belief that he must have been sent to Idola's world for a reason, as well as the fact that he expected to die defeating the Ender King. In addition, he didn't transfer there recently - when we first meet him, it's been six months, which may have helped in the process of dealing. Further, in the first chapter Idola mentions to him that one of the goals of them travelling together is to find magic that could send him home.
    • No one in the party takes offense to Rosie attempting to indirectly murder Red by stealing his Bansou Plate to prevent him from transforming. If anything, the entire scene where Rosie confesses is Played for Laughs and his actions are largely brushed aside.
    • Averted when it comes to Chapter 14. It's revealed that Red is a Stepford Smiler who puts on a smile and an obsession with bonds because of intense personal tragedies in his life, such as being an orphan at a young age, no one willing to take him in, and him blaming himself for Silver's death (she used her future vision powers to say that if she joined the Kizuna Warriors, she'd die, but Red attempted to Screw Destiny by getting her on the team... and she died saving Red's life anyway).
  • Moment of Awesome:
    • When Lurguat's Magic Seed possesses and transforms the villain into a giant ball of mass about to crush the city, Red summons Maximum Kizuna Kaizer and pushes it all the way to space. When he summons the Great Kizuna Sword, this time Rosie accepts Red's offer, takes the sword in the cockpit, one-shotting Lurguat's body in one massive Bravery Kizuna Slash in an explosion bigger than the moon!
    • Rosie genuinely thanks Red for the experience of viewing Space for the first time, showing Rosie actually giving a genuine smile for the very first time. A nice moment of him experiencing The World Is Just Awesome and a combination of Heartwarming, as well.
  • Narm Charm: Red's Toku hero antics are written with a complete, unabashed love for the genre and the The Power of Friendship. He's so cheesy, Hot-Blooded, and hammy as a Genre Refugee that he sticks out like a sore thumb in the otherwise typical fantasy setting... but that's also why he's so appealing and fun to watch, especially as every other character lampshades everything he does.
  • Shallow Parody: One criticism levied at the story is how it's more of an Affectionate Parody of Shonen manga and the Trapped in Another World genre than the Toku parody it aspires to be. Compared to series like Hikonin Sentai Akibaranger, the story doesn't really grapple with typical sentai series tropes like the rampant toy marketing. This was remedied in some circles later, due to more Tokusatsu elements and characters working their way into the setting and Red's personality developing in a way that resembles numerous prior toku heroes.
  • Squick: When Conrad forcibly deages Rosie and Idola, he wraps them up with his toy robots to trap them so they can't fight back. But while Rosie is securely bound, Idola is wrapped up in a way that more closely resembles bondage play when she currently has the body of a preteen girl. Yuck.
  • Viewer Gender Confusion: A number of readers weren't sure whether Rosie was a Bishōnen or a Bifauxnen, given his Gender-Blender Name, effeminate-looking braid, and his armor covering any secondary sexual characteristics. Clothing Damage eventually proved once and for all that Rosie was a man.
