YMMV / The Princess (2022)

Go To

  • Cliché Storm: It's a Feminist Fantasy story about a Rebellious Princess that is set to be forcefully married to someone she hates, and she tries to escape the tower to get out of her impending Awful Wedded Life. A lot of the typical cliches and archetypes of the genre are in full force here.
  • Friendly Fandoms: With Prey (2022), another Hulu movie with an Action Girl protagonist. The Princess got lots of positive buzz from people who signed up for Hulu to watch Prey.
  • Funny Moments:
    • An ominous Giant Mook in a horned helm walks into the room where the princess is hiding...and promptly starts admiring himself in the mirror.
    • While rescuing her family, the Princess grabs a guard's drink, shushes them with a raised finger, and chugs an entire mug while the guards just sit there stunned. Then she burps and beats them up.
    • This exchange:
Julius: Your parents wept [when you were born] because you weren't born a man.
Princess: I hear your parents wept for the same reason.
    • The tired, obese Minion with an F in Evil keeps jogging around the castle looking for the princess but keeps missing her. Finally, after the big climactic battle, he randomly appears and says "Found her!" Then the movie ends.
  • Just Here for Godzilla: The fight scenes are essentially the movie's best strong point, and most critics suggest just watching the well-choreographed, well-shot action scenes, and fast forwarding.
  • Took the Bad Film Seriously: Dominic Cooper and Joey King are clearly doing the best they can with the bad dialogue they have to spout and trying to make it sound good. King especially also seems to have put a lot of effort into her fight scenes.
