YMMV / The Powerpuff Girls S 4 EP 6

Go To

  • Complete Monster: Dick Hardly is a former colleague of Professor Utonium who is solely defined by his greed. Seeing financial profit in the Powerpuff Girls, Dick manipulates them into giving him samples of Chemical X and mass produces crude replicas of the girls that deteriorate easily. When a perfect replica of Buttercup manages to be created, he callously has it melted down for its excess Chemical X. Dick then traps the real Powerpuff Girls in a glass dome and slowly, painfully, and nearly fatally drains them of their Chemical X while boasting that he could kill the girls and have Utonium as his slave at the same time. With no charm or comedic traits to his name, Dick stands out as the most vile foe the Powerpuff Girls have ever faced.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Dick Hardly, in spades. Despite being a one-shot character, he’s immensely popular among fans due to him being repulsively, albeit memorably evil and because of Jeff Bennett's terrifying-yet-absolutely charismatic performance.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: The episode was a parody of misrepresenting the Powerpuff Girls and using them for merchandise purposes and follows the 'Fast-Cheap' of the "Fast, Cheap or Good? Choose Two." maxim. But come 2016, some would argue the 2016 reboot resembles something that Dick himself would make.
  • He's Just Hiding: A handful of fans refuse to believe that Dick Hardly actually died at the end of the episode, as despite getting caught in a fire and a Collapsing Lair, the series has questionable continuity and some characters had survived just as bad. We also never see his dead corpse on-screen, leading people to believe Dick somehow survived, but decided not to get back in Utonium and the girls' lives, and is simply bidding his time waiting for the right time to strike.
  • Love to Hate: Dick Hardly. Despite being a completely heartless and malicious individual (or perhaps BECAUSE of being one), he's still one of the most popular and beloved villains on the show.
  • Moral Event Horizon: Dick pretty much lives beyond it. But the moment where he plans to kill the girls, even after Professor Utonium offered to make him Chemical X forever, proves the man has no heart whatsoever.
  • Nightmare Fuel: Being one of the darkest episodes, it’s to be expected. From Dick Hardly getting progressively more evil to his horrifying monster form to all the mutated Powerpuff Girl ripoffs.
  • One-Scene Wonder: Despite being his first and only appearance in this episode, Dick Hardly is considered to be one of the most memorable villains in the series for being one of the few villains to be taken seriously as well as being one of the most vile characters in the PPG franchise.
    • Rahjah JahJah, the Mojo Jojo Expy from India, also counts for this episode.
