• Aluminium Christmas Trees: The real Father Amorth really did believe demons do not like jokes.
• Americans Hate Tingle: In Spain, the movie itself drew less attention than its plot point about how the Spanish Empire was literally the devil's work (especially given that, by this point, few Spaniards expected the Spanish Black Legend could still be this unsubtle).
• Complete Monster: Asmodeus, the "King of Hell", is a mighty demon preying on humanity to serve his sadistic goals. Ages ago having possessed Friar Alonso de Ojeda and used him to corrupt the church into kick-starting The Spanish Inquisition, Asmodeus basked in the countless atrocities committed in the name of "God" and oversaw hundreds of torturous deaths himself. Released in the present, Asmodeus possesses young Henry and immediately begins terrorizing the boy and his family, mutilating Henry's body while accosting his mother and sister. Luring Father Amorth to him, Asmodeus intends to kill the entire family and possess Amorth so he can infiltrate the Vatican and bring about another bloody Inquisition, darkening the hearts of mankind while enabling the rise of further demons and chaos.
• He Really Can Act: Russel Crowe is a famously polarizing actor, but whether they enjoyed the movie or not, most critics agree that his warm, dignified and charismatic performance as Father Amorth is a standout.
• Memetic Mutation: Father Amorth, riding a Lambretta Scooter made a lot of rounds on the internet which led to a lot of fanarts in Japan.
• Narm: Some of the demon's threats towards Father Amorth can veer into this, most notably threatening to fuck him (and stating that he'd enjoy it), a threat which comes across as more comedic than disturbing.
