YMMV / The Pirate's Fate

Go To

  • Adorkable: Something about Breena's shortness, her glasses, and her awkward, nerdy vibe gives this feeling to her, unless and until she betrays you.
  • Best Known for the Fanservice: The game features plenty of artwork meant to appeal to people who are into transformation, anthropomorphic characters, plus sized body types and muscled body types.
  • It's Short, So It Sucks!: The most prominent criticism of the game is how short it is, a standard play through can easily take less than thirty minutes. Getting all the endings and love plots does not extend the play time much either, if you know what you are doing the game can be completed 100% very quickly.
  • Popular with Furries: The game was created by two of the better known artists in the furry community and the game's Kickstarter was promoted and funded by their fanbase.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character:
    • Mary. She only gets one ending where she made peace with Dread Pirates, and even then the most she gets to do is tell Mila about her origins and motives. Compare this to Brock, who got to join the Dread Pirates in one path and was a lot more involved in the plot.
    • Rourkie. He is the only member of his crew who is incapable of having a Heel–Face Turn. As time travel exists in the game, it would have been possible for the Dread Pirates to try and go back to the past and try to change him before he became hopelessly evil.
    • Mishell and Agatha. They're bonus characters whose only purpose is to provide the player with two secret endings. Their past lives and their current actions do not affect the plot or expand on the game's world in any way.
    • It's worth noting that all of these characters are expanded on, to a greater or lesser extent, in the expansion.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot:
    • After the first encounter with Rourkie's crew, Mila has the option chicken out of the adventure and stay at the Abbigail's tavern. This could have lead to a story path where Mila is allowed to keep her original form. Instead, Rourkie returns to the tavern and kidnaps Mila to use as a hostage against Darious, which leads into the Fat Mila story paths.
    • In one Non-Standard Game Over, Circe attempts to turn Mila in a monkey, only for a time traveling Monkey Mila to suddenly appear, warning that Circe intends to sneak onboard the Pirate's Fate and use the coins to turn the entire world into animals. It would have been interesting if this plot had actually been used for one of the game's story paths.
  • The Woobie
    • Morgana. She was born in a prison and kidnapped by pirates as a young child, forced her to become a remorseless thief and killer in order to survive. Even after she was taken in by Darious and genuinely trying to become a better person, she still struggled to understand the concepts of kindness and altruism. It becomes additionally sad if she gains weight due to the coins. Her larger, less physically capable size will cause her to constantly question her use to crew and her own self worth.
    • Darious. In a few of the game's paths, he'll be turned into an overweight bear, gets possessed by a ghost and spend a few weeks trapped within his own mind, and even turned into a small, female rabbit. Is it any surprise that in one ending he gets so fed up with people betraying his trust that he decides to use the coins to force everyone to only act in the interest of helping others.
  • Viewer Species Confusion: It's not unknown for first-time players to mistake Nakhta, Bilba, and Princess Morgana for wolves. They're foxes.
