- Crosses the Line Twice: Strips that don't do this are probably the exception.
- Fridge Logic: Basically applies it to many works and situations. For a straight example, Miggs. The guy who popped out of the cake shot everyone in the room. If he'd been in the correct cake, wouldn't he have killed the two conspirators as well as the intended victim?
- Harsher in Hindsight:
- The now-deleted "Catch Phrase" comic, about a famous comedian killing himself after becoming fed up with the oversaturation of his catch-phrase "gee golly jeepers" (a result of Nicholas Gurewitch's own Creator Backlash towards The Perry Bible Fellowship), seems frighteningly prescient in the wake of Robin Williams' suicide six years later and its own vivid exposure of mental health issues and especially the reality behind the Sad Clown trope.
- You know the Kitty Photographer strip? This actually happened to an innocent couple.
- Heartwarming Moments:
- "Lord Gloom. You have a visitor." Doubles as hilarious.
- "Missing Grandfather". For a series that tends to be dark and depressing, this is one that comes off as both funny and sweet.
- "Caught" has a man caught apparently masturbating, wearing leather gear, a ball gag, high-heeled shoes, and something stuck up his ass... and is holding a picture of his wedding in his other hand.
- Memetic Mutation:
- Weeaboo as a term for an Occidental Otaku, though that's not the context it was used in the strip at all. In the strip, it was simply a word of no decipherable meaning. A 4chan admin that was a fan of the strip made a word filter change the then more common term "wapanese" into weeaboo as a joke, and it spread from there.
- Skub: Pick a side now!
- Box of Hate is also a popular image to remix, changing what the box and/or the paper says.
- The second and third panels of "Quiz Kid" are often posted online with a different image or statement on the passed note (the original depicts an ejaculating penis).
- The final panel of "Mrs. Hammer" became a trend on Twitter in 2022, recontextualizing it as a moment from Chainsaw Man (due to Denji's Non-Human Head). It is often accompanied by the caption "Chainsaw man fans be like yoooo this arc is fire".
