YMMV / The Passion of Joan of Arc

Go To

  • Awesome Music: Yes, it's silent, but Richard Einhorn released a definitive score, Voices Of Light, in 1994. It's an apocalyptic oratorio.
  • Catharsis Factor: There is a very heart-rending setup, leading to the ecclesiastical court successfully convicting Joan of heresy and her eventual burning at the stake. After the execution, one outraged peasant shouts: "You have burned a saint!", and a riot ensues.
  • Narm:
    • The festivals after Joan has signed her confession.
    • The baby being breastfed while Joan is being taken to the stake. However, it could represent the baby Jesus or be a Shout-Out to Vsevolod Pudovkin's Mother.
  • Nightmare Fuel:
    • The torture chamber, with the spiked wheel turning round faster.
    • The close-ups of the faces of the priests.
  • Tear Jerker: It's 82 minutes of an innocent woman being brutalized by nasty men. Perhaps the most poignant moment in the film is when Joan of Arc is eventually burned at the stake.
  • The Woobie: Joan, who is an innocent victim throughout the film.
