• Alternative Character Interpretation: So little is spoken of Benson's past that it's hard to say what (or who) turned him into such an Ax-Crazy psychopath. Though considering his especially overwhelming hatred of Mr. Sheppard, to the point he even threatens to kill Randy just for bringing him up, one has to wonder what went on between the two in the past.
• Realism-Induced Horror: Considering just how big of an issue gun violence is in Real Life, with countless incidents of disgruntled employees Going Postal and volatile men taking out their frustrations on innocent people, Benson is a horror antagonist who's happened time and time again.
• The Woobie: Randy. Traumatized at a young age by the gruesome yet accidental injury of his second grade teacher, he grows up to become a self-loathing and emotionally stunted young man who lets people walk all over him just because he's afraid of what could happen if he stands up for himself. This attracts the attention of Ax-Crazy psychopath Benson, who uses Randy's self-loathing doormat tendencies as an excuse to go on a killing spree, claiming it's meant to "help him."
