YMMV / The Owl House S2E4 "Keeping Up A-fear-ances"

Go To

  • Fan Nickname: The Doppelgänger of Luz, or whomever was tricking Luz's mom into thinking everything was fine at summer camp, was dubbed "Creepy Luz" by fans after an interview with Luz's voice actor said that the term was used among the show's crew to refer to a hypothetical doppelganger. With the physical appearance of such a doppelganger in Luz's home, the name "Creepy Luz" fit the bill perfectly. Some fans also suggested calling it "Lus", after the misspelling of Luz' name in one of the letters. A small few thought of "Oscura", since it is Spanish for "Dark" as Luz is Spanish for "Light".
  • Genius Bonus: Lilith's ordeal is a pretty good example of Glass Child Syndrome, a term coined for people who grew up feeling neglected due to a disabled sibling's special needs causing their parents to give them a lot of extra attention.
  • I Knew It!:
    • It was speculated that Eda's ability to remove her limbs was something unique to her, due to no other witch being shown to do it ever. A few even linked that it may be related to her curse, which this episode indeed confirmed it to be a side effect of.
    • After she was cursed, fans guessed that at some point during season two Lilith would transform into her own owl beast. She does, although it's actually a raven beast.
    • The "Creepy Luz" theorists were proven correct when the end of the episode reveals that Camila has been interacting with a doppelgänger of her daughter for the duration of the series.
  • Paranoia Fuel: Imagine being a parent and after summer camp ended, your child returns. Except unbeknownst to you, your child is actually in another world, and the "child" you have living with you is an imposter.
  • Strawman Has a Point: While Gwendolyn's alternatives are All-Natural Snake Oil, she is partially right about the elixirs being ineffective. More specifically, they have been proven in the past to be a temporary measure that loses its potency after a while, the elixirs only working again because Lilith split the curse between them. In time, the elixirs will fail for Lilith and Eda, adding a level of urgency to Lilith and Gwen's search for a cure. Although the fact that Eda and Lilith were able to beat their curse through The Power of (Gwen's) Love suggests that the curse's strength also depends on the victim's psychology, and that accepting the curse as a part of themselves helps weaken it.
