- Broken Base: Fans are divided on the merits of the Venusian's design; is the creature actually scary, or a silly-looking example of Special Effects Failure?
- Hilarious in Hindsight:
- The episode's coincidental Call Forwards to Star Trek: The Original Series, which was still two years away. Not only does William Shatner play a courageous astronaut working for a space exploration program called "Project Vulcan", he gives a familiar-sounding speech about how "the purpose of his life" is "lead the way to new worlds, new life, new knowledge".
- Geraldine Brooks had previously appeared in the first season episode "The Architects of Fear", in which she also plays a loving wife whose husband turns into an alien.
