• Alternate Character Interpretation: It’s easy to dismiss Klyden as a bigot, or, at best, a product of cultural indoctrination. But bear in mind he went through the same experience as Topa. He may well have experienced the same feelings she had, with a different outcome. He may still be affected, all these years later. He may have some degree of self-hate, or resentment, or over-compensation, or any number of other things. At the very least he is a mess of conflicted emotions and has probably been in psychological pain his entire life.
  • It’s also conceivable that his violent reaction is motivated at least in part by a desire to spare his child from a lifetime of bigotry and hatred from her own people. If he feels revulsion as her father, he surely knows that’s nothing compared to how others will react.
• Take That, Scrappy!: To the delight of his numerous detractors, this episode is one long bit of comeuppance and humiliation for Klyden after 2 seasons of his attitude and bigoted views (even for Moclan culture) giving everyone a headache.
