• Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: Alara's fantasy sequence riding the eevek. Halston Sage isn't wearing her makeup for the scene, so Alara looks human for no reason. This is on top of the strange costume and long hair. Nothing in the scene is ever explained nor is it even mentioned again.

• Diagnosed by the Audience: Alara's father makes reference to her possibly having some kind of developmental/intellectual disability, referencing that she would have accommodations to assist her if she chooses to finish her degree. While we never see any indication of her having difficulty, he may have been talking about Xelayan standards, as they are a species of intellectuals who collectively look down on those who choose to join the military.

• They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: Alara worries that kicking ass is all she's good for, which you'd expect to lead to her saving the day through some other means and realizing she has other good skills. Nope, she just kicks some more ass and that's it.
