YMMV / The Order (2007)

Go To

  • Creator's Pet: Zeke Stane. A previously-unknown son of one of Iron Man's classic enemies, he repeatedly manages to outmaneuver both the Order and Tony Stark and nearly destroys Los Angeles. Worse, all of this is just a prelude to him waging war against Iron Man in his own series (which also happened to be written by Matt Fraction at the time.)
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: In issue #6, the Order meets with Sadie Sinclair, the Marvel Universe mayor of San Francisco, who suggests that they relocate to her city, given the team's troubles with finding a base in Los Angeles, saying that she'd really love for San Francisco to have its own superhero team. Sometime later, she gets her wish, when the X-Men relocate to an island off the coast.
  • Jerkass Woobie: Mulholland Black is not very nice, polite, or refined. On the other hand, she was orphaned at a very early age by her idiotic junkie parents, spent her childhood bouncing around various foster homes, became an outcast after her mutant powers developed, fell under the influence of a girlfriend who exploited her before dumping her, ended up homeless, and then lost her powers, which by that point was the only thing that kept her from wanting to kill herself. And then she joined the Order in the hopes of having her powers restored, only to have the new powers crap out on her constantly, and whereas the others all have high-paying careers to fall back on, she is facing homelessness if she washes out. And then she finds out that her ex-girlfriend now has powers of her own and wants Holly back...
  • Too Bleak, Stopped Caring: A common complaint about this series is that about halfway through, it stops trying to sell the Order as an actual team and just turns them into cannon fodder to get beaten up so that Matt Fraction could set up a new villain in his Iron Man series.
