• Spiritual Adaptation: In the wake of the trend of Disney Live-Action Remakes that started with Maleficent in 2014, this may be the closest thing we'll get to a Disney live-action remake of Pocahontas, which the actual company reportedly has no interest in making due to the various controversies the animated movie got over the years because of its historical inaccuracies and portrayal of Native Americans. Both share the same narrative of aged-up Pocahontas romancing with John Smith, the themes of the clash between two cultures and environmentalism, and the involvement of Pocahontas's voice actress Irene Bedard.
• Vindicated by History: The film received mixed reviews upon release, with many critics calling out its excessive length and unfocused narrative, but several critics later ranked it as one of the best films of the decade.
