YMMV / The Monster That Challenged the World

Go To

  • Nausea Fuel: The deaths shown on screen and the corpses they leave are rather sickening for a 50's monster movie.
  • Special Effects Failure: A character walking along near a lake has large unexplained wet spots on his shirt. One of the monsters comes out of the water and attacks / gently rests on his back in precisely the same places. Forgot to change shirts between takes...
  • Tear Jerker: The reaction of Mrs. Simms, discovering her daughter Jody had been killed is surprisingly heart-wrenching. Her tears and screaming how she wasn't a good enough mother are truly heartbreaking to watch.
  • Unintentional Period Piece: The events of the movie happen on the Salton Sea, and the audience gets a good look of how the place was before it became an ecological disaster during the latter decades of the Twentieth Century.
  • Visual Effects of Awesome: The monster has a great design, and the life-size puppet is operated well enough to convincingly move alongside human actors. This is most apparent in the final battle at the lab.
