  • Ass Pull: Valere, Marianne and Seigneur Anselme are all part of the same family. This is never even hinted at, and its reveal at the end of the play changes nearly nothing to the overall plot.
  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: The movie version contains a surprisingly high number of these.
    • A number of times, the walls of the set will consist of oversized pages from the script of the scene taking place. This means dialogue that has yet to happen in a scene will be displayed on the walls.
    • During the movie, most of the fourth wall-breaking dialogue was simply spoken to the Camera Ferris Bueller-style, but during Harpagon's famous tirade, he suddenly goes from his period-accurate house to an empty modern stage, where he plays in front of Seigneur Anselme, before going right back to his house.
    • The trial scene contains a bizarre Cutaway Gag where Harpagon wears a wizard-like outfit and beats Valere on a foggy stage.
    • In one scene, the normally austere Harpagon barges in wearing what can best be described as a presbyterian Elton John outfit.
    • The film adds an additional end scene, where upon reclaiming his treasure, Harpagon is seen dragging it across a desert before being chased by the nun with the donations bag.
  • Narm: The reveal that Seigneur Anselme, Valere and Marianne are family members seperated by a shipwreck sounds like a gag from All My Circuits.
