YMMV / The Millionaire Detective - Balance: UNLIMITED

Go To

  • Adaptation Displacement: Most viewers who were able to watch the anime/2005 TV drama wouldn't know that it started as a novel.
  • Awesome Music:
    • The opening song, "NAVIGATOR" by the J-pop boy band SixTones, is very catchy, practically bursting at the seams with energy with its boastful synth-orchestra instrumental.
    • "Welcome My Friend" by Okamoto's is a punchy ending that masterfully blends a slick instrumental with jaunty sing-rapping.
  • Estrogen Brigade: After episode 1 was aired, Daisuke trended on Twitter worldwide because a lot of viewers, particularly female viewers, find him very attractive and his Awesome Ego very appealing. Then after the airing of episode 4, his name trended on Twitter again after he was shown having his hair down and wearing Haru's clothes.
  • Fandom Rivalry: Is this with The Case Files of Jeweler Richard since they both aired in the same year but during different seasons. Both anime tell the story about two men with different social status background cooperating together to solve the problems in their case, but from different perspectives. The Case Files of Jeweler Richard focuses on the jewelries and the backstory of their clients and themselves while The Millionaire Detective - Balance: UNLIMITED focuses on the criminals. Many fandoms compare them because of their parallels even though the former is finished, but doesn't have the latter's.
  • Fan-Preferred Couple: The fans strongly prefer Kambe and Kato as a couple even though the show has made it clear that Kato is attracted to Suzue. The former couple has more on screen chemistry, whereas Kato's romance with Suzue is more of a one-sided crush.
  • Friendly Fandoms:
    • Is this with The Case Files of Jeweler Richard because of Fandom Rivalry. Even some of the fandom made a ship of Daisuke and Richard as both of them are the rich male protagonists from their representative anime.
    • Also is this with Haikyuu!! as Daisuke looks very similar to Tobio Kageyama, one of the main characters of Haikyuu. Fans even made some headcanons about Daisuke and Kageyama as father and son.
  • Ho Yay: Even though there aren't any romantic scenes between two male leads yet, some people have noticed a bit of a relationship between Daisuke and Haru.
    • Daisuke and Haru's first encounter has them pass each other without their knowing while they drive their cars, even with slow motion.
    • The ED scene has shadow silhouettes of them in which their hands are handcuffed together while the other supporting characters are introduced, seemingly covering their handcuffed hands.
    • The entirety of episode 4 can be seen as a domestic slice-of-life episode — Daisuke and Haru spend an entire day together looking for a lost dog, shopping for groceries, cooking a dinner, getting drunk, and falling asleep to a tv drama. Also, Daisuke wears Haru's oversized hoodie while staying at his place, and Haru looks really proud when Daisuke appreciates his cooking.
  • I Knew It!: There were some viewers who suspected Daisuke's grandmother is doing something shady. The final episode confirms it.
  • Memetic Mutation: Is this Yuri on Ice?explanation
  • Nightmare Fuel: Episode 8's ending is this in spades. Not only is Shigemaru Kambe alive and well, he brutally murders Chosuke and Takei with nothing but a knife, as well as injuring Suzue. We don't see the bodies, but we do see the scene of the crime, and it is not pretty.
  • The Scrappy: The three Modern Crimes Division members (Kamei, Saeki, and Yumoto) are hated by the viewers given that they threw Hsru under the bus when they're interrogated by Internal Affairs regarding the Pollider case. Moreso the three don't do much in the show as they never take their job as police officers seriously. It's only after Nakamoto's death that they begin to take their job seriously. However, it doesn't eases the fact that they're seen by the viewers as Fair Weather Friends to Haru.
  • So Okay, It's Average: The series had a lot of buzz while it was airing, with plenty of fanfics and fanart to go around, but after it finished airing the fandom quickly fizzled out and there's barely any conversation about it. It's generally agreed that the show as a whole is pretty mediocre, especially the writing. It's worth noting that most of the fanworks after the show finished airing are about Daisuke and Haru rather than anything else about the show.
