• Fandom Rivalry: With The Patriot (2000). Many people consider this film to be a much better film, both in terms of historical accuracy and being a much more wholesome, magnanimous film.
• Hollywood Pudgy: The Prince of Wales is berated for being fat. While it's true that the real Prince George (later the Prince Regent then King George IV) was corpulent, he's played by the rather trim Rupert Everett in this film.
• Jerkass Woobie: Prince George is dissolute and deliberately provokes his father's mental breakdown, but he's also deeply unhappy with his role in life; he's fed up of waiting to become king and wants to escape from his parents' constant criticism so he can live openly with the woman he loves and has secretly married.
