YMMV / The Legend of Mother Sarah

Go To

  • Awesome Art: Takumi Nagayasu never made any other manga after that one. The exquisite amount of detail put in his drawings is reminiscent of the art of Kentaro Miura.
  • Sliding Scale of Gender Inequality: Shoots for level 5 but combines elements of level 3 and level 7. Most romances are rather destructive or tragic for women and, on the whole, only men are really shown doing something in the story, with Sarah and Satoko standing as exceptions, and even then Satoko is no fighter. On the other hand, men are presented as almost universally violent, perverted, power-hungry, cruel and selfish, with the exceptions of Bard, Tsue and Harato.
  • Tough Act to Follow: To Katsuhiro Otomo, creating anything on the same level as the worldwide massive hit AKIRA was an almost impossible task. Consequently, Mother Sarah never got the same recognition despite its length (took 16 years to complete) and the quality of the plot.
