YMMV / The Lazarus Effect

Go To

  • Alternative Character Interpretation: It's revealed that when she was a kid, Zoe intentionally started that fire that burned her apartment building and killed several of the residents, and being forced to relive (for lack of a better word) that for all eternity was her punishment in Hell. Was it just a stupid childhood mistake, or was she just a bad person all along? Given her catholic background, could it be a case of a Self-Inflicted Hell?
  • Cliché Storm: A character dies and gets brought back to life, only for things to go horribly wrong? Not exactly the most original horror movie premise.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Nico thanks to being played by Donald Glover and for being much more likeable than Frank.
  • Nightmare Fuel: Post-resurrection Zoe with Black Eyes of Evil and her murderous rampage are genuinely horrifying.
  • So Okay, It's Average: The general consensus from critics and viewers on this movie. While the premise itself isn't particularly original, it is made well enough to have some legitimately scary moments and the actors themselves all turned in good performances.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: Why hire Donald Glover to play the a character that will only last half of the movie? He clearly seems like a character that could last until the end of the movie and was much more likeable than the actual lead male character, Frank.
