• Awesome Music: Charles Wain's dark, moody synthesizer score is a major contributor to the film's eerie supernatural tone.
• Ho Yay: Quite a bit of it between David and Chris.
• Nightmare Fuel:
  • The whole premise of the movie: the apocalypse is coming, and nothing can prevent it.
  • Everything to do with Charlie.
• Spiritual Adaptation: H. P. Lovecraft biographer S.T. Joshi considers this film to be the most faithful adaptation of the Gentleman of Providence's themes and style.
• The Woobie: Every prominent and even slightly sympathetic character is definitely this. But most of all, probably, Mrs. Burton.
