YMMV / The Ketsueki Quadrilogy

  • Angst? What Angst?: Despite her village having been enslaved by Shao Kahn for an unknown amount of time, Li Mei is surprisingly chipper during her first introduction.
  • Heartwarming in Hindsight:
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • A fighter appearing in Chishio no Me is based on Geese Howard. While he does square off in various crossovers featuring him and Street Fighter characters, he does face off against the Tekken cast in Tekken 7, released a couple of years after Chishio No Me.
    • By the latter end of Ano Sentaku Bou, Liu Kang defeats Raiden and earns the title of Fire God. For some reason a couple of years later, NRS somehow took notes from this fanfic and made it a portion of Mortal Kombat 11, with completely opposite circumstances to boot.
    • If you read the fanfic after playing through Tekken 7, one would have to consider that Akuma had seemingly disappeared and failed to eradicate either Kazuya or Heihachi, considering all three are in the same fic even before said game. Simply put, just how would the Hachijou clan play out in later games when the person sent to kill the Mishimas is all but dead and gone?
    • The appearance of Kunimitsu in Majin Seryu Ki, full-stop. It's revealed in canon that she's never truly dead, and said iteration actually settled down for a family life. In fact, her daughter would later carry on said title, and said daughter has yet to appear in the story (though how she will be integrated is completely up in the air).
    • The Japanese-esque naming conventions for this version's Elder Gods is somehow thrown out the window with Cetrion's appearance.
    • While it's kind of funny that Cassandra winds up in what is technically the far future version of her world, just the fact that she gets to know any future at all becomes this when, in Soul Calibur VI, Cassandra is the only person alongside Zasalamel who knows of the original timeline.
    • Chishio No Me featured a couple of Captain Ersatzes of various SNK characters as fodder during the first round. Thing is, the SNK mobile game King of Fighters Allstar would ultimately be the one to closely bring Street Fighter, Tekken and Soul Calibur together with its characters, bringing this crossover into an actual reality. Mortal Kombat is the only one still not in that game, though considering it crossed over with WWE, well...
    • Zafina's plotline here where she gets involved with the conflict between Jin and Kazuya due to the prophecy regarding Azazel becomes this when Tekken 8 would have the canon Zafina get involved in the same circumstances; only this time she's pretty much banking Jin's side 100%.
  • Unexpected Character: Sean & Laura showing up to fight Ryu & Ken during the second round, was certainly a surprise, as neither of them were listed amongst the cast. Goes to show that while the fanfic's timeline placements are rather dated, the author is very aware of the newer entries.
  • Unintentional Period Piece: The fic serves to be a big example for fighting game fanfiction. It already has the technological/social/cultural aspects that many other works have in this list, but what sells this series as such is the datedness of its lore. The four franchises featured in the fic have all underwent very significant plot developments (this is one of the few 2020s Mortal Kombat fanfics to still use the Midway timeline, Soul Calibur underwent a reboot of its own, Street Fighter started progressing post-SFIII with new elements added to the lore, and Tekken introduced so many additions to the lore that straight up creates plotholes in the original). Needless to say, the fanfic series is trying its best to stand amidst the new additions. However, Street Fighter V's Laura Matsuda winds up making a cameo in Majin Seiryu Ki, meaning the author is aware of the more recent developments, though time will tell how much might be factored in.
  • The Woobie: When he was 11, Scott Wagner lost his whole family at the hands of M. Bison, and spent most of his life in foster care, believing that he should've died alongside his parents. Scott would spend most of his teens as a delinquent, before he was finally found by Guile, who would take him under his wing and give him a new home. He would late find out, his sister Lisa was not only alive, but turned into a Doll by Bison. And that's before the story starts. He goes through a few more tragedies from here, like losing his then-girlfriend Sonya and Guile becoming the brainwashed pawn of Shao Kahn.
