YMMV / The Jackson 5

Go To

  • Awesome Music: The band had many great songs, but the most notable are "I Want You Back", "ABC" and "I'll Be There". From the later years, there's "Blame It On The Boogie" and "Shake Your Body".
  • Covered Up: "Blame It on the Boogie" is an amusing example, as it was originally a song from British singer Michael George Jackson (aka Mick Jackson), who's completely unrelated to the band. Both singles were released the same year and charted in the US and UK, but history remembered the Jacksons version far more.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: For some people, seeing an innocent, genuinely happy young Michael perform is a bit uncomfortable, given the huge amount of suffering and controversy that would consume his adult life, not made any better by how his father treated him and his brothers behind the scenes.
  • Heartwarming in Hindsight: In this 1973 skit, the man asked whether he could join the group and Jackie replied "Sorry pop, but this group is strictly family" with the others shaking their heads in agreement. They kept it that way: no one other than the brothers was allowed to join.
  • Sweet Dreams Fuel:
    • Admit it, you can't feel bad when "ABC" comes on.
    • The Jackson 5 Christmas Album is a quintessential collection for the Christmas holiday season, likely due to the perspective of the songs being sung by younger singers, particularly then-12-year-old Michael. Nevermind that the Jackson clan were Jehovah's Witnesses, and didn't even celebrate Christmas themselves.
