YMMV / The Invitation (2015)

Go To

  • Nightmare Fuel: The ending. Will, Kira, and Tommy survive the party's devolution into an outright massacre, which is definitely awesome. But then they stop outside and find the red lantern David lit earlier. Looking out in the distance, they see other red lanterns lighting up and start hearing dogs barking, people screaming, and police sirens blaring. Which means only one thing: they weren't the only ones put through the horrors of the Invitation that evening. And before the credits roll, we're left wondering how big is this Invitation event? Is it just in the neighborhood? The city? Or could the world itself be coming to an end?
  • Paranoia Fuel: A seemingly innocent invitation to a get-together leads to your friends trying to murder you and your other loved ones. Not only that, but the popularity of the cult they're a part of (which you had no idea about until that evening) means you might have other friends being victimized as well. Do you really want to accept that dinner invite?
  • Signature Scene: Tie between Will's breakdown as he panics wondering where their missing friend Choi is and the absolutely chilling ending scene, both of which are often mentioned in reviews of the movie.
  • The Woobie:
    • Tommy, left distraught after losing his partner Miguel.
    • Kira; she's new to the group of friends, and her first outing with them doesn't go too well.
    • Will, who is gaslighted throughout the evening and eventually admits he's been "waiting to die" since his son's death.
